The Discipleship Pathway

What is a disciple?

What is discipleship?

A disciple is a follower of Jesus on the transformative journey of becoming more like Him. “Disciple” is not merely a title or a role but an identity marked by a continuous commitment to learning, growing, and embodying the teachings and character of Jesus.
Discipleship is the transformative journey within the local church, where we grow to become more like Jesus by intentionally pursuing His teachings, character, and way of life. It involves letting His truth and love shape us as we adopt His lifestyle and put His teachings into practice. Ultimately, discipleship leads us into a deeper union with Christ and a flourishing life in His kingdom.

What is the Discipleship Pathway?

As seen in Scripture, discipleship is a dynamic, lifelong journey of centering your life around Christ, not a linear sequence of steps or program to complete. Each of us follows, is transformed by, and relates to Jesus uniquely. For this reason, there is no universal or “one size fits all” path of discipleship. Instead, followers of Jesus are encouraged to go at their own pace down the path we believe the Holy Spirit and Scripture is leading us to as a community. This looks like engaging with 3 rhythms woven into the life of our Church: gathering together, experiencing transformation, and impacting the city around us. Our goal is that each person in our church steps into each of these rhythms at their own pace as we seek to look more like Jesus each day.

Gather

Gathering is essential for our growth and flourishing into the likeness of Christ. It is in the context of community that we encounter the power of God’s grace, our character is shaped, and we experience the joy of belonging to His diverse family. By regularly coming together we bear one another's burdens, celebrate each other's joys, and spur one another on toward transformation, impact, and ultimately, Christlikeness.

Transform

Transformation is a lifelong journey at the heart of discipleship. This involves the intentional pursuit and application of Christ's teachings, character, and ways of living. As we allow the truth of scripture to penetrate every aspect of our being and put Jesus’ teachings into practice, we experience a profound shift in our hearts, souls, minds, and actions, growing to better reflect Christ in His kingdom.

Impact

As disciples of Jesus, we are participants in His mission of the redemption and renewal of all things. This requires a commitment to practicing Jesus' way of life in our relationships, communities, and spheres of influence. By embodying and sharing the essence of the Gospel, this is a call to actively engage in God's holistic salvific work, striving to bring about the flourishing of His Kingdom on earth.
Sunday Gathering
The Sunday gathering is central to our discipleship and our community. Coming together as a church family and worshiping God is the most significant gathering we do as a church! We invite you to join us at our weekly Sunday gathering at 10am at The Francis Parker School, 330 W Webster Avenue.
Small Groups
In our Park LP Small Groups, we see the gospel of Jesus Christ transform our lives as we read and apply the Bible to our lives, pray together, and see to make God known in our workplaces, homes, neighborhoods, and world. Click here to learn more about small groups.

Prayer
Prayer is the heartbeat of the Christian faith, drawing us into communion with God. Through prayer, we interact and partner with the Spirit in His redemptive work—seeking renewal in our city and healing in our lives.

We pray together before every Sunday gathering at 9:15. Join us in the Chorus Room located directly behind the Auditorium entrance doors.

Our deacon team would love to pray for and with you. If you have prayer requests, please fill out this form. There is no prayer request too big or too small. All prayer requests are confidential.
Fasting
Fasting is the intentional abstinence from food to deepen our hunger for God. We fast to offer our whole selves—body and spirit—to Him, to grow in self-control and holiness, to amplify our prayers, and to stand in solidarity with the poor. Through fasting, we align our hearts with God's and open ourselves to His transforming work.

We as a church have a rhythm of fasting together on the first Monday of the month. Join us for a prayer gathering on that day!
Alpha
Explore life, faith, and meaning with Alpha.  Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a friendly, open, and informal space where people can come and discuss life’s big questions. Each week is centered around a short talk and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts and ask questions. No question is too basic or too big.
